The Mamluk Castle of Aqaba

Seep into a Foregone Timeline

At its height, the fort served as a khan, providing shelter, supplies, and a vital place of rest for Muslim pilgrims travelling to Mecca. The Ottomans retained control of the fortress until 1917, when it sustained significant damage during the Arab Revolt following bombardment by the British Royal Navy in the First World War.
Above the main entrance, the Hashemite coat of arms stands proudly as a symbol of the Arab Revolt, which led to the liberation of Aqaba from Ottoman rule.
